August 2010 Sales Tax Holiday: School Supplies and Clothing

Dear Friends:

From Friday, August 6, 2010 through Sunday, August 8, 2010 there will be a sales tax holiday, intended to relieve the financial burden on families preparing for the start of the school year.

A complete list of eligible items can be found by clicking the “Sales Tax Holiday” logo on the Virginia Tax Department’s website:  www.tax.virginia.gov.

Below is a partial list of the supplies that qualify.  I hope this information will prove useful to you.

 School Supplies

Items on the School Supplies list must cost $20 or less per item, and must be intended for use in school or in connection with a school activity.

  • Blackboard chalk
  • Book bags
  • Calculators
  • Cellophane tape
  • Clay and glazes
  • Compasses
  • Composition books
  • Crayons
  • Dictionaries and thesauruses
  • Dividers
